Five habits that keep your lenses scratch-free for years
Most scratches come from cleaning, not accidents. Five small habits from our lab to keep coatings perfect.
Modern lens coatings are tough, but they are not invincible. These five habits make the biggest difference.
- Rinse before you wipe. Dust is abrasive; lukewarm water or lens spray lifts it first.
- Use microfiber, not your shirt. Cotton traps grit and pushes it across the lens.
- Never use household glass cleaner. Ammonia and alcohol strip anti-glare coatings.
- Case them, lens-side up. Never put glasses face down on a table.
- Wash your cloth weekly at 40 °C, without fabric softener.
